DHORDO, KUTCH, INDIA – For families and travellers living in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, the winter school break is a natural time to visit India. Namak Resort, a boutique tent resort near Dhordo in Gujarat, invites them to spend part of that break on the White Rann of Kutch, a vast salt desert that turns brilliant white between November and February.
Flights from Saudi Arabia connect to Ahmedabad, from where Bhuj and Dhordo are a short onward journey. Namak sits on the Khavda-Dhordo Road, close to the salt flats and to Rann Utsav, the winter festival of Kutchi music, food and handicrafts held at Dhordo.
The resort is deliberately small, with 21 stays: ten Premium Tents of 392 sq ft, ten Super Premium Tents of 520 sq ft and a single Darbari Suite of 1,200 sq ft. Interiors use patterned canvas, timber and warm textiles, so the tents feel calm and settled after a day outdoors.
All prices are per tent per night for two guests. A Premium Tent is Rs 8,500 plus GST and a Super Premium Tent is Rs 10,500 plus GST, with breakfast, hi-tea, dinner and a cultural programme included. The Darbari Suite is Rs 28,000 plus GST with all meals, priority check-in and itinerary transfers. An extra person in a Premium or Super Premium Tent is Rs 2,500 plus GST per night. Families can compare the tents and the Darbari Suite online.
Nearby, travellers can see the salt plain at sunrise and under the moon, follow the Road to Heaven, look out from Kala Dungar, and meet artisans in the craft villages of Hodka and Nirona.
“The White Rann is at its most beautiful in the cool months, and the quiet is what guests remember,” said the Namak team. “We hope families from Saudi Arabia will make it part of their winter in India.”
Full-moon dates and 18-31 December carry a surcharge and are popular, so early planning helps. Details on location and access are on Namak’s White Rann tent stay page.
